Domino Sugar and Pretium Packaging Produce World's First Plastic Sugar Container
When Domino Sugar decided to create the world's first 5 lb. plastic sugar container, the company chose Pretium Packaging, a St. Louis-based manufacturer of custom plastic packaging solutions for consumer and institutional products, to help produce the new plastic canister at its Nashua, NH plant.
The new canister features traditional Domino Sugar yellow and white graphics and can be stacked on store shelves to create a "billboard effect" for increased exposure. The container has a wide mouth opening for easy dispensing of the product with a scoop or spoon and indented hand grips for easy carrying. Once the canister is empty, it can be used to store a variety of household items.
"For years, consumers have been requesting an improved sugar package," said Bill McKeon, Pretium strategic accounts manager. "This custom-designed canister solves many of the problems retailers and consumers have had with the old 5 lb. paper bag."
The paper bags cannot be stacked and waste valuable shelf space at supermarkets. The new containers can be stacked up to five high, reducing wasted space and time spent restocking shelves. And the new canister eliminates spillage and clean-ups at stores and in consumers' kitchens.
Kevin McElvaney, marketing manager at Domino Foods, Inc., presented the design idea for the new canister to Pretium, and "we assisted in refining the design to meet his expectations and requirements," said Bill. "It's the most innovative package in the history of the sugar market."
Pretium Packaging is reshaping the plastic packaging industry by stressing speed to market, custom design and manufacturing responsiveness. In addition to primary plastic packaging, Pretium also offers customizable delivery and inventory programs to meet customer needs. For additional information on Pretium Packaging, call 314-727-8200.
